Burton to Swarkston Hinckley Canoe Club

We had a good turnout at Burton for the club trip to Swarkestone with nice weather along the river Trent. We all met up at the car park adjacent to Burton Canoe Club for an easy launch into the river where we had to paddle upstream for a few yards.

A right turn brought us to St Peters Bridge and a small weir which everybody shot without incident, well done to Row, Nick and Joy as it was their first weir.

The next few miles were an enjoyable paddle along the rural Trent for the mix of kayaks and canoes and Sasha the Westie who came along too.

Dave was busy coaching in his double kayak with Joe, Nick and Row taking turns in the front seat.
We paddled past the point where the River Dove joined the Trent and carries on down past Willington power station.

Shortly after passing the power station we stopped for our lunch at Twyford and a short rest before continuing on our journey.

On arrival at Swarkestone bridge the majority of the group went to have a bit of fun in the grade 1 rapids. We found this to be a really pleasant day out through the countryside with nice weather, and it was a good opportunity for beginners to gain confidence with weirs and moving water.
