Wye weekend 6th 7th July 2019
This year the annual HCC camping weekend was on the river Wye. We were based at Tresseck campsite in Hoarwithy Herefordshire, we did 2 day trips from here, so members could join us just for the one day if they wanted to.
7 of us arrived on Friday evening. After setting up, eating and a few games of field skittles, we had a campfire and a few beers. Saturday morning 4 more joined us for the weekend and one for the day. We did the car shuttle with the help of Paula and Gail (Richard’s sister in law) The trip was the shorter option of 8.5 miles from Holme lacy bridge down to the campsite. This is a lovely stretch with a few small rapids/shallows to make it interesting, with some great scenery.
Saturday evening some ate at site and others had a nice meal at the (very) local pub, followed by another campfire, beer and chat. Sunday we had 2 more join us for the 11 mile stretch from the campsite down to Ross on Wye.
After packing up and doing the car shuttle, we headed off downstream, this is a very similar stretch, in lovely countryside with a few little interesting bits of river and things to look at on the way.
Most of us had out traditional end of weekend swim at the get out in Ross, which entertained the locals.
We even has a brass band playing for our arrival, (and an audience to get changed in front of).
After a well-deserved ice cream, a very tired crew headed home. Great weekend had by all, well done to the youngsters and newer paddlers who joined us.
